  1. A single Benadryl at bedtime is often used for insomnia.  It's relatively safe, but it's always a good idea to ask your doctor if there's any reason you shouldn't take it.

  2. Sleeping pills are not available over the counter. Benadryl the antihistaminic can also be used as a sleeping pill.

  3. Benedryal is safe for you to take.  Infact, it is the sleepy ingredient in most over the counter sleep aids, including the advil and tylonal pm lines and meds like unisom.

But more than taking a pill, you need to figure out why you arent sleeping.

You need to go to bed and get up at the same times every day, including the weekend.  You need to do the same 'routine' every day before bed.  Your routine should be 30 mins to an hour long and should be relaxing things.  You should only sleep in your bed, nothing else in bed (like dont sit on your bed to study, talk or whatever else).  The more you program your brain to think that when you do certain things its bed time, the more your brain will get into that routine and help you fall asleep easier.

Its behavior conditioning, very simular to Pavlov's dogs. (google pavlov if you dont know what I am talking about).

  4. A turkey sandwich washed down by a glass of warm milk.

  5. The best thing you can take that you can't get accidicted to is Melatonin it is already produced by your body naturally as a sleep add. But you have to take it 30 minutes before you go to bed and it is over the counter do not frive after you take it.
