Its time for me to buy a new helmet and the last one I bought was great for awhile. I bought the ICON helmet with open and close vents on top of the helmet, but after a couple of months the air would come through the replaceable shield. I have replaced the shield, but no change. I like the Icon brand, but I'll try something new.

  1. AGV and FM have always been good "entry level" racing helmets. Yes you can spend alot of money on both these brands, but you can also shop on a budget.

The best asvise dude, is to go to your local store and ask for a salesperson to assit you. If they can not help you , then move to another dealer. A good shop is worth its weight in gold.

  2. I think HJC is by far the best bang for your buck helmet.

There is a great article from Motorcyclist where they did destruction test of different helmets and surprisingly many of the really high end helmets didn't do that well in the type of crash that the average rider might face.  It's a good article to read:

  3. Had an HJC, good for the money. I now have a Shoei, which was more $ but a better helmet (less noise and nicer fit). I guess I would need to know what you want to spend. i advise trying a bunch of different brands on, because we all have different size/shaped heads.

  4. Depends on how much you like your head. Shoei is by far the best, its quiet, fits snug, visors are easy to change and its the strongest.

Arai isnt too bad but with the pods on the side that hold the visor on, sometimes they whistle when the wind gets inside and can drive you nuts!

HJC is a good mid range helmet, comfortable, easy to change visor and you can remove the inner liner and wash it.

AGV is alright, good ventilation, they tend to sit a bit high on the head though, nice and light.

Shark helmets are really good, not too expensive yet still good quality, they have just brought out 6 new designs that look really good! Start getting down to the cheapies, you have THH which I actually dont recommend as they are only made out of the plastic compound. M2R arent bad, nice and light. Steer clear of anything under $200 if you can because they are the helmets which are only made of plastic and dont even have the fibreglass compound in them. Good Luck and happy shopping.
