Question:

What is the best overhead lighting?

I'm looking to add ambient overhead lighting in my family room (there's already task lighting in the form of two table lamps). Initially, I was just assuming recessed lighting since that's what's in the rest of my house, but someone recommended track to me because of the flexibility and because installation would be significantly cheaper and less involved.

Can track lighting look attractive? The room is fairly traditionally furnished--will such a "modern" look be out of place? Also, I'm looking at this as an investment in the house. If you saw track lighting in a house you were thinking of purchasing, would that be a drawback? Would it be "less good" than recessed?

What do you think is the best form of overhead lighting?

  1. In Order of their Superiority; The Sun; a Skylight; a full Spectrum Lamp; Reflected Yellow Lamplight; Direct Yellow Lamplight; Fluorescent Lighting; Moonlight (available on only a few days of any given month); and Lightning (a fleeting & an especially Unreliable format). Each has their Pros & Cons- & which looks the "best" depends on the nature of Your Home, & the Choices You make for it... :)
