What is the best pain medican that you can get over the counter?

My husband has been having problems with abscesses in his mouth and the IBprophin isn't helping much anymore.I need to know of something that is safe for him to take that we can get over the counter. Thank you for any information.

  1. How much ibuprofen is he taking?  He can take 800 mg every 8 hours.  If that still isn't helping, maybe Aleve would work better.  Otherwise maybe it's time to call the doctor for something stronger.


  2. ambesol is a topical analgesic (pain reliever) That might aid in stopping the pain.

  3. Salt water rinses help me when I get abscesses in my mouth. Also using a water pick to massage the gums and drain out the pus & blood hurts so good! However, this is really quite serious and he should go to a dentist. An abscess poisins your whole body. It can actually be fatal. I'm not trying to scare you. It's just serious, toxic and painful and will have to be dealt with eventually. Maybe his dentist can at least prescribe him a vicodin for the pain. Mine usually will even if I can't afford to do in right away. There's no pain like dental pain!
