When I found out I was pregnant I read "what to expect when you're expecting" within the second month. I still pick it up monthly to review how baby is growing and what I can expect.

Since then I moved on to "Babytalk's Guide to your Child's First Year". A 2008 publishing that was a great guide to infant care and vaccinations and milestones.

Now I'm 6 months along and looking for something about actual parenting. I mean when the baby is older then one year. Something with a chapter on discipline would be nice. I'm also interested in when the child should start chores and that kind of thing.

I know I will learn as I go along, and I can't expect a book to convey what its really like to raise a child. Still, any recommendations would be appreciated.

  1. I read 1-2-3 Magic Effective Discipline for children 2-12

My son is 3 and i read this before his first birthday and i would say i have incorperated it into  my own lil 123 magic :) it's basically counting their behaviors whether it's something thing need to start (pick up toys, get in the bath tub, do homework something like that) or stop (screaming, hitting, backtalk) and you just count like jimmy I told you to clean up your toys that's 1, and he ignores you, jimmy that's 2, okay that's 3 no tv for the rest of the day (or with younger kids time out, or a privilege for their age is taken) it works well for me!!! and they use this book in some treatment centers i know of for troubled kids, and it's for teachers too.... great book!!
