Waterproof is the best for less smearing. Honestly, though, the best kind of liner that stays in place best is liquid liner. I like Maybelline best. It's tricky to learn how to put it on, but it just takes practice (I can put mine on in the car now!)

P.S. I wear waterproof liner and mascara everyday. It's not hard to get off, and the very best way to get it off is to wash your eyes with Johnson baby shampoo. I use it every night.

Here's an alternative to consider.

Waterproof make up is a pain to get off.

You could try make up primer.

L'oreal Paris Le Kohl Pencil Doesn't smear at all & girls always ask me what brand I'm wearing -I've been using the onyx color for 8 years now.  I would never use anything else.

My two favorites are Revlon ColorStay pencils and the Lancome Le Stylo ones.  The only difference is the price, 10 dollars versus 24 dollars.  They both go on smoothly and last all day, even if you sweat.  I just bought Revlon ColorStay in black with carbon black in it, and it's great.  You can buy it at any drugstore.  Lancome is sold at Macy's and Nordstrom.
