  1. It depends on what you're looking for. May is a great month for festivals in Barcelona (http://www.site-b.org/in_barcelona_festi... and it's still considered shoulder season, which means you can generally find cheaper airfare and more accommodations options.

The busy tourist season now stretches into September, but if you can wait until the second half of the month, you should be able to find less expensive airfare and more accommodations. And in September, you can also join in the Catalunyan fun during the Fiesta De La Merce on September 24.

The weather is nice in both months, so that shouldn't make much difference in your decision. If you're interested in more seasonality information, one of my coworkers wrote this When to Go overview for Barcelona:

  2. I went in july a couple of years ago and it was too warm to do anything!! It was about 40 degrees celsius during the day so we just stayed inside sitting infront of a fan.  September or May would probably be better for weather and maybe wouldn't be as crowded but there wouldn't be as much on.  That might be a good thing though as we found it very difficult to get food at night (they eat dinner around 11pm there) as all the restaurants were full.  It's a lovely place and will be lovely any time of year.  Oh and they don't have measurements for pouring drinks! :o)

  3. I think May is a little nicer because everywhere is just that bit greener, but at the moment we're having a lot of rain for May. September is also a very good time to visit as it's not too hot. Otherwise I don't think it matters much.

  4. September is a great month - like June, it's not too hot, but still highly unlikely that you'll get rain (it's raining today!) Also, as someone has mentioned if you come for the week of 23rd September, you will be here for the festival of La Mercé (our lady of Mercy is the patron saint of Barcelona) which is ana amzing week to coem, with many free concerts and events going on, along with the famous "correfoc" or fire run, which goes through the old town.

You can get some good deals with apartments, too. Try www.bcn-rentals.com
