i have on now and i would like another.

they are slightly more expensive than the average one....

it depends on what type, and what size.

Go to craigslist.  There you can find a local seller, so that there are no shipping costs.  Kayaks and canoes are very pricey to ship.  Also try a google search of any local kayaking and canoeing clubs in your area.  Boating clubs typically have a newsletter or a website with affordable used gear.  Also check the want adds of your local newspaper.  I've bought and sold a couple of used boats there as well.

Based on my previous experience suggest following:

Dagger, available through REI, makes good white water hulls.

Ocean Kayaks, maker of sit on top hulls, also is partnered with Necky of Canada, both of which are fine hulls.  The sit on

tops are more friendly to novice but are slower and offer riders wet buttock unless the attire is a wetsuit farmer john..

Never purchase until you actually sit in one.   Pick loud color.

Canoes are free.  Any deep water has several on the bottom.
