Try going to Chinese medical shop. Ask for good saffron from Spain.

Have you tried any ethnic grocery stores, as mexican or asian grocery stores in your area?  Check around at some of the smaller local stores, sometimes they may also carry saffron.

Either an ethnic foods market or a gourmet foods market. If you don't see it on the shelf, ask for it - it's so expensive that many stores keep it under lock and key.

If you don't live in large city that has specialty grocers, then your best bet is to order from online spice houses.

One of the best is Penzeys.com. Their spice selections and offerings are par excellence. Request one of their catalogs; they are very informative and describe the spices and provide recipes.

The best saffron is Kashmir, which is hard to find in traditional grocery stores. The most commonly found is Spanish saffron, which is not nearly as nuanced and flavorful as Kashmir.

I always get the freshest saffron at the mexican specialty grocery store...if you cant find it there or dont have one....try this....

world market has a ton of different varieties.  

If you can't find it in stores in your area, I would buy some online.  ...just checked amazon.com and they have 238 to choose from!!!

All Indian grocery stores carry saffron but it's always behind the counter.  It's also mostly Spanish saffron, it's the best!  Kashmir saffron is excellent but you cant always trust the quality and the source.  You dont need a huge quantity, a little goes a long way.
