I lived there for 11 years, but moved away a long time ago.  Depending on if you are looking for good food, or just good atmosphere, you can't go wrong w/Waterside.  Not sure what resturants are there nowadays, but eating outside overlooking the boats is great.  As for Ghent, Colley and 21st are cool, but my all time favorite was O Sullivans on Colley as you head toward ODU.  Love thier Bloody Mary's...used to $1.00 on Sunday afternoons....I'm jelous...
