Question:

What is the best place $ wise to get a Marine Mechanic job?

So my Sig. other and I are trying to decide where to move to once he graduates The Marine Mechanics Ist. ((MMI))*(end of summer) .

We both know we want to live somewhere warm. That's why we moved to have him do this school stuff anyway..but now he has done so well the option of going to the Carribbean right away has been put on the back burner. He has options to sign contracts with companies who will pay off his tuition. I don't know of other companies outside of the us who will do that so if we end up in the states we will not be carribbean bound for 3 or so years. If the job doesn't work out...you end up going to the marina down the street or however that works..

If someone could advise me, guide me, share experiences with me..anything...

Just don't want to move somewhere and be "stuck" and broke.

  1. Look for communities along the eastern seaboard.  Miami and Fort Lauderdale are big boating areas, and certainly fit your requirement of being warm.  Areas where you know there are people with money to spend - either retirees or the areas frequented by the rich and famous - are of course good options.  Best of luck with your plans.

  2. Texas or Florida-  warm and lots of boats and marinas etc.  Louisiana is a good boating area too.  Lots of work right after the hurricanes come thru in all the Gulf States.  But, for the money, you have to come to the Northeast.  NY, NJ, Conn. RI, Maine.  Lots of boats and people who can afford to fix them.  Long Island has lots of boats and marinas.  Check it out.  You can work Long Island in the summer and Florida in the Winter.  Best of both worlds.

  3. Seattle

the place is absolutely boat crazy and with good reason, some of the best boating in the world.

great area to live, high average wages (and high cost of living unfortunately)

The climate is gray and rainy but seldom cold, and summers are almost magical.
