Pioneer makes a better product, but the Panasonic is probably a better value.  Consider that Panasonic's top of the line 50" model generally retails at $3199.99 and Pioneer's Kuro Elite retails at $4999.99.  The Pioneer has the best picture quality, but is it worth the extra $2k?  Probably not.

If you can afford it the Pioneer Elite is the best flat panel available, but the Panasonic will still give you incredible picture quality for a very reasonable price.
