Sodium di-chloro or Calcium Hypochlorite. I just bought the latter. Is it normal for this shock to make little bubbles form on your skin. Just curious I have never used this type before.

  1. when using shock try not to get it on you, but if you do just rinse off. when appling shock make sure system is on and brush it in untill dissolved and no swimming for four hours.

  2. good rule to remmember one hour no swimming per one pound used. four pounds of skock used no swimming for four hours

  3. Both will work, but don't mix calcium hypochlorite and trichlor or dichlor together in a container - an explosion can occur. Yes, I've seen this happen - melted feeders and such.

Also, calcium hypochlorite will raise your total alkalinity over time while dichlor will not.

Don't get either one on your skin. It's not as bad as acid but wash it off right away if you do.

NOTE: If you use a biguanide sanitizer system (e.g. Baqua) you have to use peroxide shock.
