What is the best portable device to access the online forums, check emails, open attachments (zips, images)?

Question

Im looking for an portable internet device that can help me stay online all the time on msn/skype and allow me to surf the internet and post my private phpbb forum. I require something that preferably can work over edge/3g because wifi is not widespread here in India.

Im currently looking at a hacked iphone with fring chat client or an asus eeepc...The Iphone does look like it can do what I want however it is very expensive...Are there any alternatives?
