Question:

What is the best potty chair?

My son is nearing 2 years and while I don't feel he is ready to be toilet trained, he is showing a very keen interest in the big potty and is really noticing his wet/soiled diapers.

I would like to buy him a little kid potty that he can get acquainted with in the meantime, to introduce him to the concept so he will know what it is for when he really shows readiness.

Any hints on a good chair? I had a great one when my daughter was a toddler but it is long gone and I can't find any like it.

  1. Just get one that sits on the big tolet and let him pick the step stool himself. Make a big deal out of buying the seat and the step. Mind games work wonders.

  2. The Baby Bjorn large potty (the one for about $25-30 not the tiny one for $10) got rave rave reviews so we got that one. It is easy to use and fits my 2-year-old son, who sits on it but has yet to use it for real. Anyway, the only downside is that my son is really skinny and I think it might be a tad uncomfortable for him as he keeps shifting his weight once he's been on it for awhile. He also gets red marks on his butt where the corners of the seat hit but his skin is so sensitive this may be the culprit too. Anyway, that's the one we use. :)

  3. I would go to Wal Mart and check it out. I buy everything there.

  4. hmmm ... I think it would be the chair that magically dumped its self in the Oval Office ......  now that a chiar that would get great use.

  5. Well, times were rough for us when I was young.  My parents couldn't afford the high-end potty chairs.

My father simply got his circular saw and cut a hole in one of the dining room chairs for me.  My mother then put a mixing bowl underneath it.

To this day, I get the urge to move my bowels every time I sit down at the table to eat.  Go figure.

  6. We were given one by my Mother in law, so I didn't really get to look around.  The one word of advice I would give you is not to get the kind that make noise when they "go"  That's the type we had, and of course our daughter kept sticking her hand in the thing to make the music play until we finally took the batteries out of it.

  7. Baby Bjorn is the best potty chair but I wanted to build on my kids' interest in the real toilet.  I found a very safe and very sturdy stool with sides for the toilet so they could hold on sitting or standing.  http://www.amazon.com/Elite-Child-Corpor...

They were so comfortable on it and so excited about using the same thing mom and dad use that they potty trained right away.  This stool is well made and well worth it because it made potty training easy.  Hope this helps.
