We had a big tree die outside the family room and now there is bright hot light coming in. I don't want curtains, I am wondering if there is a really good product that is like a window tint like you get in the car? If so, have you tried it and been happy with it?

  1. Actually, they make dark shades that are basically window tint on a roll.  They attach to your window and you can have a draw string on the side, or just pull down.  They are awesome because then once it gets dark out, you can just lift it up and you have your natural light again.

They do also make window tint for interior windows that is similar to a cling wrap.  You can get colored ones at a craft store.......makes it look like stained glass.

    Hope that helped!

  2. I would highly suggest that you get your window professionally tinted.  While there are cling tints that you can DIY, if installed incorrectly on double or triple hung windows can lead to your window cracking from heat buildup.

I also would suggest some sheers.  You can get them in any color and they will offer some level of privacy without restricting your light and view much.

  3. I bought decorative window film from The Home Depot to cover my bathroom windows.  I bought the Magnolia design from ArtScape: http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stor...

It's really easy to put on.  It took less than an hour to do it.  I measured the window, made sure to cut the film to size, sprayed the window with water and a little soap, then put the film on.  I used a squeegy to get all the bubbles out.  It's been on the window for a year now and still looks great!
