  1. My mother taught me many years ago to use a bar of Ivory soap to take out stains, especially in whites. It works for colors as well. I get oil and grass stains out of my husband's jeans with this. Use the bar of soap dry, rub it on the stain, and wash as usual. It has worked for me, give it a try. I've gotten blood, juice, and smoke stains out also.

  2. liquid tide , straight ,

  3. I swear by adding Borax to my load along with a normal dose of your detergent.  It's cheap and it has so many of uses.  I am a smoker and I have a dog that sometimes sneaks downstairs and marks the pile of dirty laundry.....eeeeewww and it works on that.  I also have super hero sense of smell so I know it gets it out.

  4. Not sure about the stains, I would imagine just washing the fabric would get that out.  To get the smoke smell out, run extremely hot water in your bathtub (enough to get a good steam rolling), add 1 cup of vinegar, hang the garment in the bathroom and shut the door.  I've had non-smokers give me a 'sniff test', and it passed!!   Good Luck

  5. Oxyclean is a great product. You can mix up a solution in a spray bottle to spray on curtains or furniture. Testing in a hidden area is always a good idea. If you've had company that smoked this will probably take care of the smell, but if its from a long term exposure to smoke, you will probably need to clean the walls and carpet as well.
