it's right that we are very polarized.. there are many differences between north and south... i live in middle-north , but since october i live in rome ..

I think that Pise, and i n general Tuscany, is a very good place to live, hills, mountains, sea.. ther are all these things!

but i'd like also to live in the north, especially in trentino alto adige (bolzano, trento,merano etc..) and all them provinces

Depends what sort of life you want. Do you mean which is the best to live and work, live and retire, live with children, live when you are single etc... I live in Rome - fantastic city when you are commitment free but I'll be moving on when the time comes to have children as in my opinion the cost of living here is too much for raising a family. I will move further out.

Anyway, there are charts based on some fixed parameters (standard of living, work and business, facilities, health and environment, level of security, population, leisure), measuring the quality of the life in the various italian provinces.

and you'll see that top of the charts are the northern towns of Trento, Bolzano and Aosta. Personally I don't agree, because I would choose other parameters, but I have to agree that these results have sense for the majority of the Italians.

Well Hartz, that is a loaded question, and you are sure to get many different answers from people that love THEIR province... especially between the North and South  (They are very polarized)

That said, I will come out of the gate for you with the CORRECT answer:

There is no 'BEST' province in general terms.  All of Italy is special in one way or another, and each province has something unique to offer that others do not.  It is part of what makes ALL of Italy so special.

Now, if your question were more specific, it would be much easier.  For example, had you asked what is the best province in Italy for someone who loves the beach life, then one might argue that Olbia is great since it is the home of Sardinia's Emerald Coast.  But then, another person might argue how great the beach life in Rimini is.

Perhaps you would ask for the best province for a person that  loves pizza.  It would be tough to argue that living in a place like Sorrento would be great (The province of Naples).

On the other hand, you might just love those Chianti wines, which might cause you to think that the Chianti is the place.... but then again southern Tuscany might be your thing, so you might consider the province of Siena and live in Montalcino where you would sip Brunello all day long.

The list is endless... Everything in Italy is special from the southern tip of Sicily to the Alps.

In my case, I spend my time in the province of Viterbo.  I like it because it is so central to so much.  I am an hour from the hustle and bustle of Rome, but right at the border of Umbria's beauty.  A short drive puts me in some of Tuscany's most beautiful hilltowns, and I am only a half hour from the beach.  I think it is the best... FOR ME, and my desires.
