I'm looking to get a second board for powder riding. I currently ride an 07-08 Burton Twin which suits me well for "normal" boarding on trails, halfpipe etc. Going to be out west soon Telluride, Vail etc and need a board specifically designed for powder riding. I was looking at the Burton Fish and Malolo however I needed some additional feedback on this prior to dropping all of my economic stimulus tax rebate (and then some) on a board. I'm looking for something in the 158-162cm size range also.

  1. If money wasn't a factor I would get a Lib Tech 1986 Mullet Magnetraction Powder Snowboard, (retail around $460)  hmmmmm... now you got me thinking about spending my rebate on one...

check out the reviews on backcountry.com

  2. If you want a pure powder board, the Fish is the better choice of those two.  If you want something a bit more high-end check out boards from Prior: http://www.priorsnowboards.com/boards_po...

  3. Some good freeride/powder boards you should check out are

    Rossignol Jeremy Jones

    Santa Cruz Twinza J Fish

    Palmer Honeycomb

    Apo Swallow Apocalypse

    Nidecker Ultralight

    Nidecker Legend

    Elan Ascent

    K2 Gyrator

    Lib Tech MTX Mullet

    Atomic Radon CT

    Arbor Roundhouse

Alot of these boards are powder percific and are slightly unconventinal in shape but if you just want a board for powder you cant go wrong with any of these. Good luck with the riding.

  4. The Malolo is a good board, and a little more versatile then the Fish.

I would go with the Malolo.

  5. I wood research a little bit more on powder boards. there's more options than just those that are really great. look for a stiffer board and more agressive board than what u have but also one that is easy to manuver. I figure that if u want to get only 1 snowboard for the area,  i know a few brands that have some good boards;k2 has some A.T.L.A.S. borads that are made for that. one k2 that really stands out n powder ridng is the GYRATOR. This board is basically made to be a "powder rocket" for the ones u mensioned, I would go with the malolo though im not shure but I think the k2 Gyrator is a little easier on ur wallet. =)
