  1. The one book I would never give up is 'Quilter's Complete Guide' by Marianne Fons and Liz Porter. It's the first book I go to when I need to brush up on a technique. I consider it to be exceptionally thorough and detailed (it's been in print for like 20 years now, and you can probably get a used copy cheap). For hand quilting, Alex Anderson and Ami Simms both have good books. 'About.com' is a terrific on-line resource, for beginners and experienced quilters both. There are also helpful videos on 'youtube' - check out the first three in particular.

  3. I am a quilter and have a site: http://www.appliquequiltdesigns.com.  On the site I give lots of information on quilting.  I also have a section of quilt book reviews. Check out my page on first quilt books.

  5. For hand quilting, I'd check out Jinny Beyer's book "Quiltmaking by Hand: Simple Stitches, Exquisite Quilts."
