The primary function of the TV will be gaming, I have a PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360 Elite. We also have a standard definition DVD player and a DVR cable box with Time Warner that will most likely get carried over to the new system also. We don't have any kind of external speakers so the TV has to provide audio unless we can get the audio additions in under the total cost limit.

The basic criteria I personally would like to see is:

A) HD Connectivity for the 360 (1080p), PS3 (1080p), and Wii (720p), preferably enough to hook all devices up so there is no cable swapping.

B) Less than $1500 before tax and shipping.

C) Has to support 1080p.

D) Whatever connectivity the DVR Cable box will require.

E) Wide viewing angle, only one of our 3 couches is in front of the TV.

F) I need to know what connectors I'll need to purchase to be able to run in HD, because currently almost everything is using component video or rbg.

If anyone can think of additional information that I need to consider please let me know. I appreciate any additional information or informational links you can provide. Thanks!

  1. Trust me, even if it means saving up a bit extra, get the new LG scarlett LCD Tv's... True HD, perfect for gaming. I've seen only one of these sets come in for repair, it was because a kid threw a remote at it and cracked the screen (Read below for info on LCD and Wii). The picture was so amazing I almost creamed - I'm pretty used to seeing the larger, newer and expensive TV's. But this one is defiently top on my A list

The only other time we had this model in the workshop was because LG replaced a 2 year old rear projection with this model, because the rear pro failed twice under warranty. This is another reason to trust LG, they will help, and do what it takes to make you happy.

The scarlett is a s**y TV, especially with the red back, but it comes in other colors, it is full 1080p and has loads of inputs.

NB: I've had a few customers bring their LCD Tv's in because a Wii remote has hit the screen - this is not uncommon, this is the primary reason for the wrist straps, if u have an expensive TV, use the strap!!!!

  2. Ahh huh! your answer will be Samsung LN40A650, cnet.com reviewed the similar LN52A650 as Excellent an also Editors Choice. Go read their reviews over at Amazon.com and 95 percent of LN40A650 owners love this HDTV. both tv are identical except for the size

BY the way i bought my LN40A650 at Amazon.com. they are currently price at 1341total. Free  White glove shipping.  Beensearching for the best HDTV in the market today and read lots of positive reviews on Samsung.

u would need to purchase HDMI cable.(connecty between PS3 to the tv) Do not spent 50 to 100 dollars for HDMI cables cause they are a waste of money! quoted by most professionals from cnet!  HDMI cable should only run you less then 10 dollars for 6foot long cable.U can buy this at amazon or monoprice.com for all types of cables under the sun for dirt cheap for superb quality cables . again per advise from Cnet people!

From A to H , you will have no problem with any of them.
