What is the best road route for traveling between Delhi and Pune?

Question

I want to drive from Delhi to Pune. Heard that NH-8 is good to travel from Delhi uptil mumbai. Another option is - i drive upto Gwalior and then take NH-3 upto Nasik, finally heading off to pune.

What is your opinion?

If I take NH-8, should i drive upto Mumbai and then take Mumbai-Pune expressway, or is there any other good option?

Please advice.

Delhi - Agra - Gwalior - Indore - Malegaon

Shirdi - Ahmadnagar - Pune.
