What is the best road route from Chennai to Ooty ?

I read on many travel forums NH68 (Ulundurpet to Salem) is not good. Is the road from Krishnagiri to Salem (NH46) and Salem to Avinashi (NH47) any better ? Planning to travel in the middle of August (No rains I presume !!)

  1. Chennai to Coimbatore

    Coimbatore to Ooty.

    For your enjoyment you can select mettupalayam to Ooty by train
