I am going to be taking an express bus and/or the blue line but I am looking for driving alternatives on days when I'll need a car. What freeway is the best option 710? 110? Maybe a combination of streets and freeways.

And yes I realize it is going be a crappy commute. No need to point that out. Looking for helpful suggestions.

  1. the 605 does a good job (sometimes its faster)

my parents drove from Long beach to Woodland hills

and it took them only a 1/2 hour (on three freeways one them the 605)

also here is a suggestion for a pretty fast way to Long beach  by

    bus

is to catch the 577 express (from either the Long beach transit mall, cherry and 7, Ximeno & 7th or 7th/Channel, then take

this bus to the Norwalk station, then board the 460 "Los Angeles:" bus

(it will cost a little more for the free way portion but if you got

(I think a 2 zone bus should work) it might save you some money (even better if you got  2 zone EZ pass

then that pass would be valid on Long beach transit as well

  2. I would say 710 N and then 5 N.

But, as you said, it's going to suck.  Use the blue line train as much as you can.

  3. go streight

  4. Don't take the 710, it is packed with slow moving semi's from the port all traveling east in the morning. Take Redondo to PCH and turn left then turn right on Cherry and take it to the 405.

The 110 would probably be a good alternate too. Just take Ocean over the 2 big bridges and you'll get to the 110.

  5. You could either do the 710 to the 405 to the 110, but you'll get a lot of truck traffic in the am. I would go over the bridges right to the 110, you really don't hit traffic till after Redondo Beach Blvd. You could do the trip in 45 minutes to an hour.
