  1. A55 Chester to Holyhead, then Stena Line ferry to Dun Laoghaire (or if you really want to drive through central Dublin, Irish Ferries to Dublin port), then, according to Google Maps, head for the M50 (about 5 km), then at junction 9 (after about 13 km) take the N7 exit for Limerick. 21km later you get to the Red Cow Roundabout, take  the 1st exit for the N7 signposted Luimneach/Limerick/Cluain Dolcaín/Clondalkin. After about 68 km it becomes the M7, and about 90 km later it's the N7 again. 96 km later you should be able to spot Limerick. Drive time from Dun Laoghaire to Limerick is estimated at around 2 hours 40 minutes.

  2. Go to AA route finder.  You will need to do the UK part first, Cheshire to whatever port you intend to get your ferry from. Then do the Irish portion, from whatever port you land at to Limerick. (I would do it for you but I don't know what part of Cheshire you will be travelling from or what port you will be using.  Enjoy your trip.

  3. Take the ferry to Rosslare, then follow the signs to Waterford. You don't need to cross the bridge into the main part of Waterford city, just follow the sign for the N24 to Limerick. You'll have to go through Carrick-on-Suir, the village of Kilsheelan, but you can now bypass Cahir if you wish, but it is a nice place to stop off, there's a great parking area beside the castle. After Cahir there is Tipperary town which I'm sorry to say is a traffic bottleneck, then are a couple of villages (Oola and Boher) and finally Limerick city.

  4. Unless you need to bring your car, take the plane, its much cheaper.  The ferry is ridiculously expensive and the journey takes up the whole day and leaves you knackered.

  5. Cheshire to Holyhead...believe there are ferries to Dublin -  then the main road to Limerick (if you have map of the Republic, the trip by road seems easy).
