I want to travel Scotland from Edinburgh for 5 days by car with my friends. What is the best route to get the best of Scotland?

We would be traveling at end of June 2008.

I prefer to include the Loch Ness lake and would be expecting to stay overnight at hostels.

Please also give the name of the cities or places of interests if possible.

Many thanks in advance to everyone :)

  1. Make sure you see Tantallon Castle. Breathtaking and beautiful. The castle is in ruins but provides a beautiful view to the sea. Also Glamis Castle, incredible history.  Check in at any city to the visitors bureau and they will help you find the type of place you want to stay. some fairly inexpensive b and bs and you feel like you are more connected with the people. they can tell you their favorite places to stay. I'd take at least a couple of days around Edinburgh. Loch Ness is pretty far north. Loch Lomond, not so far but really pretty, you know on the bonnie bonnie banks of Loch Lomond! The song. I'll never forget the man who was driving us to see Loch Lomond, singing "you take the high road and I'll take the low road and I'll be in Scotland afore ye, for me and my true love will never meet again on the bonnie bonnie banks of Loch Lomond". Needs a good strong Scottish accent! Have a great time, I am very envious. I LOVE Scotland!

  2. if you look at a map, the route you should go is pretty obvious really, go north from edinburgh, on the m90  to Perth, a beautiful place to stop off for a while and have lunch etc then carry on up to Pitlochry and stop off for the night, you will have no probs finding a hostel there

next day up the A9 to aviemore, again no probs with accomodation and you will be driving through spectacular scenery

Day 3, carry on the A9 to inverness to loch ness

    watch out for nessie, lol

Day 4 all down the side of loch ness to fort augustus and onto fort william for tea and onto Glencoe for the night

Glencoe is my most favourite place in the whole wide world, its awesome

Day 5 back via Crianlarich, to stirlingand back to edinburgh

the places i have named are easily found on any tourist site and you will have no problems finding the attractions not to miss

scotland in 5 days is quite difficult

you will miss the silver sands at Morar

    Skye

and you havent even been here to Glasgow

you will have an awesome trip, i wish i was coming

but you have to come back for longer!!

    enjoy Scotland
