I'm concerned that you know you have bad cartilage in your knees - and you are looking for a good running shoe.

How do you know you have bad cartilage in your knees?  Has a podiatrist or sports specialist examined your knees?  Do you have a tattered meniscus - the cartilage between the bones that meet at the knee?  Do you have cartilage floating in the patellar tendon?

If you know that you have bad cartilage in your knees, then some sports medical professional probably diagnosed this for you.   If that's the case, then is a good running shoe really the answer and what the sports medical professional recommended?

It may be that you need a careful exam of your knees to see what the problem is.  A self-diagnosis doesn't usually work as well as we would like it to.

However . . . if a sports medical professional has told you you have bad cartilage in your knees and need a good running shoe, no one online can tell you what shoe you need.

For that, you need to go to a good or a great running specialty shop in your town or city.  A good shop hires runners or sports-professionals-in-training to determine what type of shoes their customers need.  A great shop will do a dynamic (i.e., on a treadmill) gait analysis.  Either way, you need to see someone who can professionally analyze your gait, your feet, your stride, and do a clear and competent match to one of the plethora of shoes that are on the market.
