I am looking into buying a scooter (like a Vespa type scooters) and want to look at a buyers guide to help me choose which one is best. Is there any main buyer or just regular guide for scooters. I am looking for something like a Consumer Reports but with more information on styles and what kind of scooter is best for what. Something that also includes info on accessories like side cars.

  1. I would say go with a Honda scooter. Personally, the Ruckus and Metropolitan models are the best. They run around 2300 dollars and they come with a warranty and all that.

  2. Good evening Scooter fans!    I did quite a considerable amount of research before purchasing my Kymco last month.  I ended up purchasing a KYMCO Xciting 500.

Ultimately, I started out with a Honda Silverwing in mind, but the price tags are huge (over $8K).  In my research, i found that the KYMCO (Kwang Yang Motor Company) is from Taiwan, not mainland China.   While there is a huge abundance of chinese imports on the internet, you definately get what you pay for.   In my research of the different brands, the KYMCO has the longest warranty, and parts support has pretty decent depth here in USA.  I would not worry aobut that too terribly much.

If I was going to get a vespa type scooter for 'round town scooter action, I would reccomend the KYMCO Bet& Win, which is a 150 cc bike and from what I have read and heard, it is a good solid bike, but if your looking for retro styling, go with the People S 125.

Personally, with almost a 40 mile round trip commute, I went with the Xciting model.  I am a big guy, 6'3 & 210 pounds, so the 500 cc model was the one for me.  The long frame on the Xciting model made the comfort factor excellent. It has all the power I need and is a real head turner.

    Good luck, & happy scootering.

  3. dont but any of the chineese ones , look at the yamaha scooter or spend the money on a vespa , if you break down you want to buy parts

  4. I do not know of a guide, but if you want a vespa style scooter you can also look at Genuine, also for good scooters with out pay outrages amounts for the j*p name there are Kymco and Hyosung who make outstanding scooters Kymco is the largest scooter manufacture in  the world. They are not from china and not imported c**p. They have good warranty's and honor them.

  5. Consumer Reports is planning on doing something on scooters and motorcycles but nothing yet. You are going to have to do your own work based on what is best for you. There are lots of scooter forums but you need to look for the ones that aren't brand based since they will, of course, say what they have its the best.

Things will vary a lot based on your needs. Study up carefully or you will be looking for a new scooter pretty quick after buying your first!
