I am looking to buy a 50 cc scooter so I do not have to get a motorcycle license. I went to a motorcycle dealer and the guy tried to convince me that the 2008 yamaha zuma for $2200 was the best because it could take a beating, however it was also the only scooter he had. Thanks for all the help!

  1. zuma's! you can get big bore kits, clutch kits and carb kits and can get them up to 55 mph with the front wheel up in the air !!

  2. The Yamaha Zuma is not the best 50cc scooter, but NONE of the Japanese are.  I'd say its an Aprilia, 2 stroke or 4 stroke is an open question.  Of course, the aprilia line is rather pricey, and that certainly enters the dealing as well.  So do you want the best or the best for a reasonable price? They are rarely the same machine.  And as long as you limit it to 50cc, you are not going to find the best (all engine sizes considered).

If you liked the Zuma, and saw one on a sales floor, BUY IT.  There are reports all over of shortages, none left on the sales floor.

I find the Hondas to be more reliable, or maybe I just prefer them.

  3. Piaggio makes most of the Italian scooters like Vespa and Aprilia so you can't go wrong with any of them.

  4. Kymco is the largest scooter maker in the world and from what I   have seen the one of the best. The Agility 50 is a really good scooter. I have seen one get over 100 mpg and runs year round. They are about 2k out the door depending on the state you live in.

  5. bay an kymco agillity 50cc the best always start it goes good scooter

  6. The best depends on the person.  Kymco has a few really good 50cc's that you should check out.  The Super 9 is a great bike with a lot of aftermarket parts and is more for the sporty side.  The People 50 or People S50 is nice because it has 16" wheels.  They've got a look that is kindof a cross between sporty and classy.  For the familiar classical scooter look of the early years, the Genuine Buddy 50 or the Piaggio Fly 50 might suit you.  I personally like the People scooters because of the larger wheels (smoother ride) but what you like might be different.  All of these are very good scooters and are very reliable.  The support that these three companyies provide on their products is also very good and the choice of the 'Best' is subjective.
