Question:

What is the best second career for a teacher wanting to switch jobs?

My brother wants to switch jobs after more than 10 years as an elementary teacher. He really doesn't have any other skills besides teaching, which makes finding a non-teaching job rather difficult.

Can anyone suggest some non-teaching jobs that a former teacher would find it easier to get than others?

Thanks!

  1. Maybe it's not teaching that he is getting tired of. Maybe it's working with children that is wrecking his nerves. He should try to teach older ages or college. Maybe that may help.

  2. He could do almost anything

maybe he should try working in a large corporation it tech.

  3. His education and skills are transferrable to other non-teaching careers.  Have him look into the public sector. That includes social services positions with the Department of Children's Social Services, Social Worker, Counseling and other classified positions in the school districts, colleges and universities. After school and Recreational programs, and positions for non-profit or community organizations, or postions in the Disabled Students Programs and Services offices. Apply for positions working with children, adolescents and adults at the Federal, State, County and City levels. He can work with children, adults or at a leadership position administering to staff members. (Coordinator, Director or Supervisor). In the private industry, he can go apply for sales or marketing postions with Lakeshore and other school supply companies.

You did not mention where your brother lives. Good luck!
