I'm looking at a budget of between $500 - $1000. I do have an existing home audio system, but am thinking of purchasing AudioEngine a5 bookshelf speakers (self amped) and either a Squeezebox by Logitech or an Apple AirPort Express. What do others have set up or suggest? Should I buy another PC/server just to store my music and add that to the wireless network? Also is it worth converting my mp3's to a higher quality format? My goal is to be able to play music anywhere in my house using a laptop or remote.

thanks.

  1. Use the Apple system, you can stream music from itunes!

i love it! they at mp3 since they take less space.

  2. This is what I use in my pool area to stream music from my PC to my receiver outside.  It's an awesome little device and it has a nice big screen that allows you to browse your music, set playlists, etc.  Plus, it's only like $120 bucks and easy as pie to set up on your wireless network.

As far as the format goes.  As long as you go with MP3 at 128 bitrate that is CD quality and it's doubtful you will hear a noticeable difference any higher.
