What is the best setup to record outdoor ambience?

That is, what microphone shall i get? Do I need phantom power? How many mics shall I get? Where shall I go to get it all from?

Cheers, thanks a lot. Thought out answers are much appreciated. No answers saying 'just google it' please, no luck there anyway.

  1. What's your budget? Omni directional mics work best. Small digital recorders with built in microphones are available and are also a good choice. You may want to rent your equipment.
