where can i go to find how old makers marked they products?

i found some old dishes my mother had and wonder if the mark could be traced back to maker. it is 2 clover with j & c on it and numbers.

  1. It is possible that the mark you see is from the J & C Bavaria Porcelain / Jaeger & company.  This company was founded by Fritz Thomas & Jaeger and was in production until 1979 when it was sold to an Italian firm.  You can find this information with a picture of the logo at mygrannysatticantiques.com


  2. Replacements.com. Take a picture of the dish on the front, and a close up of the bottom and e-mail it to them.  they will find out who made it and give you options to buy MORE of them!  (This is all done for free, because they want you to purchase things they have in stock!)

    Probably the best thing to do is see an antique dealer with an example.  If the one you go to doesn't know, they can probably point you in the right direction.  Once it's identified, or if you just want to poke around to see if it's there, you can try www.replacements.com to get more pieces if you'd like.
