  1. Free BMD if you are in the UK. GenUKI is good too. US Gen Web or Roots Web are a tie in the USA. I can't tell you about Australia. Indians (from India, not the red ones) don't have many at all.

Did you want a list or guide to the other 400,000 free sites, or just the best one?

  2. I believe Ancestry.Com has the most records online. They have all the U.S. censuses through 1930. The 1940 and later are not available to the public yet. They have military and immigration records and indexes to vital records of many states.

If you find it too pricey, your public library might have a subscription to it.

Of course, no way are all records online.

  3. I use ancestry.com but that costs money, but for overseas records I usually have better luck using familysearch.org, especially for my German ancestors.  Sometimes I use genforum.com when I have questions...

  4. Try http://www.crimcheck.com. They have an extensive public records section you can use for free! Good Luck!

  5. Try Rootsweb and World Connect  where trees have been posted .

  6. www.familysearch.org

Free and has a ton of information.

  7. The Latter Day Saints web site is free and they have genealogy coming out the wazoo!

  8. Here you go....   http://publicrecords.onlinesearches.com/...

http://usgenweb.org/.  This site has been created by a group of volunteers that are committed to keep genealogy free and have provided a website for genealogical research in every county and state in the United States.

http://rwguide.rootsweb.ancestry.com/.  RootsWeb is also a great site.  It’s funded by Ancestry.com.  It provides links to ton’s of additional sites as well.

http://www.cyndislist.com/.  Cindy’s List has just about everything from A to Z.  I would highly recommend visiting this site.
