as i said i have a Canon powershot A650IS and in my camera it says

L:12m 4000x3000

M1: 8m 3264x2448

M2:5m 259x1944

M3:2m 1600x1200

S:0.3m 640x480

postcard: 1600x1200

Widescreen: 4000x2248

I always either use postcard or widescreen, because they give me good quality. and I just want to know if any of the others will give me good quality too because when i use L its big, but shows too much grain on the photo.

  1. Usually, cameras have two settings - one is for the size/resolution, which is what you've listed, the other is the compression factor, i.e. the quality.

You need to make sure your camera is always always always set to the biggest size and best quality (lowest compression). If you think that makes your file size too big, keep this in mind: you can always reduce it later in post processing, but your computer can't invent information that wasn't there in the first place.

Grain is caused by low light/high ISO, not by the size of the photo.

  2. L would be the best quality.  Does this camera have a setting for ISO.  If so put that on the lowest ISO setting possible, usually 100.
