  1. Under 40' & any long time you won't be friends for long>

  2. It depends on how long they will be on the sailboat and how comfortable they are with each other.  Anything smaller than 35 feet would be very cramped for two couples, and even 35 feet would mean they would need to be able to cope well with each other in close quarters.  I would suggest at least 40 feet for two couples which would mean a boat that could have a forward cabin and an aft cabin, each with its own head.   For three couples you want a boat with three sleepping spaces.  Some 40 foot boats might have that, but most likely you would be looking at bigger than  40 feet.   Best of luck with your plans.

  3. 40 to 45 ft with either 2 or 3 staterooms and 2 heads...if this is for chartering consider a Catamaran.

  4. You don't say for how long. For a week's charter (or even 2 weeks) 35-feet and up will do as long as there are enough cabins to accommodate everyone. Don't rely on using the saloon as an extra bedroom, you'll very quickly get tired of having to clear everything away before you can go to bed there, and you'll have to pack all your bedding away first thing in the morning!

We live aboard a 45-foot sailboat permanently. We restrict our visitors to one couple at a time, so there's never more than 4 people aboard. Believe me, after a couple of weeks, 4 people on a 45-foot yacht starts becoming crowded. 6 people would be unthinkable - and we have three large double cabins too!
