Looking for a place with good instruction/rentals and atmosphere for our youth group. There will be about 15 of us Middle school to Highschool ages.

Keeping the $$ low is always a goal.

thanks...

  1. I live in SF Bay Area so I ski Lake Tahoe a lot. Unfortunately I don't have kids so I don't know what to suggest you. But I can tell you that my main ski resort, Kirkwood, is what locals call the real skier/boarder's resort. In average there's more serious and advanced skiers/boarders there. Compared to other ski resorts, we ski/ride more aggressively at Kirkwood. There is less beginners there. I almost never see big groups of kids at Kirkwood and I ski 30-40 days per season there. I would be surprised if someone says Kirkwood is best for beginning kids.

Squaw Valley and Heavenly are known to be pricey resorts. Not worth it for kids. So you can probably rule these out, too.

  2. I would recommend Sierra Summit. I was there a couple years ago for my first skiing lesson. The atmosphere was great and very beginner-friendly.

It's in Lakeshore, CA, about half an hour northeast of Shaver Lake.
