  1. The best ski areas in the lower peninsula are Boyne Mountain, Boyne Highlands & Nub's Nob. All these areas are within miles of each other & are just north of Petosky, MI & right outside Boyne City. Look on a map if you're from Michigan. You'll save at least 2 yrs. of driving by not going to the upper peninsula. I know, I've been an expert skier for over 35 yrs. & I've skied at Boyne Highlands. I also have a summer home in the Traverse City area & you probably know where that is. You can take route 31 or route 131 or interstate 75 but that will depend on where you coming from. Blackjack, Powderhorn & Indianhead are also excellent but they're in the u.p. The Boyne area is just a good, if not better than the u.p. They're about the same size ( vertical drop, number lifts & runs). If you want to stay over night check the ski area websites & they will have package deals but they usually require at least double occupancy & some include meals. Good Luck & have a great time!!!
