  1. The Canon MVX350i is a miniDV tape based camcorder. Transferring video from the miniDV tape uses the DV port on the camcorder connected to a Firewire 400 (IEEE1394a, i.Link)  port on your computer with a Firewire cable.

If your computer does not have a firewire port, they are typically easy to install. Macintosh computers have had Firewire 400 ports for many years. You will need to get a firewire cable, too. 4-pin (camcorder's DV port) to either 4 or 6-pin on the computer side depending on they type of port installed.

Windows comes with MovieMaker to capture and edit; Macintosh comes with iMovie to import and edit.

Sony Vegas and many other video editing applications are out there - Final Cut Express and FinalCut Pro are the "best" for the Mac platform.
