  1. AVG Anti-virus has a built in web page checker to check your search result pages for suspicious pages and protects you from them.

As far as boosting your internet speed, I would discuss that with your internet service provider as some do not allow speed boosters and it could possibly violate your terms of service. They may also have suggestions on the software you could use.

  2. For best protection against viruses, trojans, worms and other malware download  Avira Free Antivirus Edition from http://www.download.com/Avira-AntiVir-Pe... Avira is currently the best top antivirus software for FREE! with signature detection rate 99.6%. for comparison and other details of anti virus products refer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ant...

Boosting the speed heavily relies on the ISP, however we can fine tune the network for maximum efficiency. Download TCP-IP optimizer from http://www.download.com/SG-TCP-Optimizer... set MTU accordingly, it will automatically detect tcpwindowssize as a multiple of MTU, number of connection per server on internet browser, etc... . It will optimize for the best.

If you want to use heavy network programs like torrent and all, whatever p2p software, you have to change the TCP/IP current number of half-open connection limit. By default, it is 10 connections per second in Windows XP SP2 and SP3, in SP1 you dont have to bother about this Limit. For this you can use http://www.lvllord.de/download.php?url=e... This will patch your existing tcpip.sys driver with modified one, you can set there limit, say for torrents 100 will be a good choice you can set above 100 but there is a risk of spreading of worm which will be most likely to come from UDP port, so block unnecessary UDP ports.  If you have a good antivirus like avira (best), then you should not worry about the worm warning. Restart the computer after patching.

If you have Vista then things have to be done cautiously otherwise BOD can appear! Read this page http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/02/17... . Have to be sure about this. There are many tcpip.sys versions released from Microsoft, so a different patcher for different version, make sure you download the correct patcher from the above site, also before patching turn off user account control, and also Vista TCP Auto Tuning.

  3. just get firefox, it is a internet browser and scans everything you download and the sites you go to. you will never get a virus or a worm ever again

    hope that helps  :P
