  1. 1. Suits your voice in terms of range and style (there's nothing worse than hearing someone try to sing a song out of their range - painful!)

    2. Suits the character you're auditioning for - no point in singing a comic song if you're auditioning for a romantic character

    3. In the same style as the show you're auditioning for - preferably by the same composer but from a different show

    4. Not overdone.  This means don't sing anything from a show which is currently big on Broadway or the West End - so no Wicked, Hairspray, Les Mis (PARTICULARLY On My Own which is sung by every second girl auditioning for a show - it's about the most overdone song in the world), Legally Blonde, Avenue Q, RENT, Spring Awakening or Phantom.

    5. Unless it's an audition for a Sondheim show, don't sing Sondheim...and the same generally goes for Andrew Lloyd Webber.

  2. sing a song from wicked, ie: defying gravity or the wizard and i. also, a usual winner is "on my own" from les miserables. it shows off range, acting skills, and has parts that are quiet and beltable, and it isn't too long :)

  3. You should choose a song that first and most importantly shows off your range...

secondly, you should choose a song that allows you to act out the character

lastly, if possible, the song should be similar in style to the show you are auditioning for...While this is not required, It might help you get the role you desire...

  4. DO NOT SING A SONG FROM ANNIE! The directors hate that. It is too cliche. Choose a song you know well and feel comfortable singing, make sure it is in your vocal range and you can sing it well. Good luck!

  5. the best song to sing is definatley a song that your comfy with, something you know or like...it should be what there asking for and in you range, if you are a soprano mezzo belter like me i suggest something like good mornign baltimore or gimmeee gimeee for an upbeat song or im not thatirl for a slow song! hope this helps!
