Onkyo TX-SR605 AV Receiver

2 pcs. Wharfedale Diamond 9.5 speakers for Front Left & Right, 1 pc. 9CS for center, 2pcs 9.1 for surround and SW 150 for sub

I use the Audyssey Automatic speaker setup and I end up having the following speaker configuration. Front , Center & surrounds are in Full Bandwith, LPF of LFE 100Hz, Double bass On. Having this configuration, I feel that the bass was unatural and a bit much. Some advice to put all speaker to small and LFE to 80Hz as per THX reccomendation however I dont have large and small option on my Onkyo TX-SR605, I have to choose from Full Bandwith, 40Hz, 50Hz ... to 200Hz which frequency should I choose if I want to set it to small. Another thing that is confusing me is there is another crossover frequency control on my subwoofer. Which frequency should I use. Can somebody help me please!

  1. Do you have an equalizer to turn down the bass? If not, Try wiring those speakers in with your regular speakers. Are you putting those speakers in your BASS section on your receiver or your Subwoofer section?

  2. How do you have your sub hooked up? Are you using the sub out on your receiver ? You shouldnt need the extra bass on the receiver. You should be able to set you sub with its gain controles. I used the sound and vision home theater tune up DVD for my system to get a base line. Your sub should handle the 30 to 100 hz range. Your other speakers can handle the rest. Placement of your sub makes a difference also. The corner is good for starters. Get a sound meter if you can. That helps alot. Good luck.

  3. Frequencies are  measured in Hz The Human ear ca hear frequencies in the range of 20Hz (Bass) up to 20000Hz (Highs). So for bass you want to go with the "lower" frequencies. For surround speakers try 200Hz. After you do this then you can adjust the crossover to your liking.
