  1. Logitech 5.1 surround sound imo

  2. There is no "best" speaker system.  There are literally thousands of choices ranging from under $100 to $100,000 and even more.  For instance, an $80k pair of Wilson speakers might sound fantastic in a large room, but in a small apartment they would be not be that great.

What is "best" for most people is a system that does everything that person wants it to do at a price that they can afford.

And yes, Klipch makes some great stuff, but whoever said Bose was the best is seriously mis-informed.  :-)

  3. Klipsch. I've had a Bose home theater system for 3 years & it's not worth the money.

  4. This is a hard question to get a good answer.  Everyone is going to have their own opinions.  It also depends on how much you want to spend.

Generally the more $$$ you spend the better the system.  Stay away from those home theater in a box dealies.  They are ok if you wanted a surround sound system for like $500.  Bose is ok but it's more like a glorified home theater in a box which is priced fairly high for what you are getting.

I would recommend looking at a mid to higher range receiver ($1000ish and up to $1800ish) by either Onkyo, Denon, Pioneer Elite, Yamaha, Marantz, etc.  Then speakers to suite your need.  Big towers for music and smaller ones for a surround sound system (although big towers make up a good surround sound system too).  Subs are necessary unless you get towers with built in subwoofers, but in most instances you will get better sound from 2 towers and a seperate sub since subs like to be in the corners of a room.

If you wanted an ok higher end system I can recommend the higher end Klipsch and Polk speakers.  And if you wanted to go nuts (as in several thousand dollars)  I can recommend Bowers & Wilkins (B&W), Definitive Technology, MartinLogan, Pioneer Elite, High End Denon, High End Yamaha.  And if money is not object and you can afford to put a second mortgage on your house, you can buy McIntosh (Middle of the road systems from them are between $15,000 and $30,000.  I am not lying to you when I tell you that I have seen a $90,000 system from them at a local high end audio store!  You will not find this stuff in a best buy, circuit city, etc.  Only at authorized dealers)

Again it all has to do with what you want to do.  If you like music then a system with 2 floorstanding speakers, powered subwoofer and a good receiver would be better than a 5.1 - 7.1 sound system which would be better for movies.

Most audiophiles (sound and music enthusiests) spend several thousand to approx $15,000 for their systems.  If this sounds like too much to spend, dont dispair.  Most of these guys take years to put together a system that is perfect for their tastes.  This is because of the cost of the componants, endless research of new products, and trial and error of buying items and seeing how it makes their system sound.

I personally have just started building my system.  So far I have spent $4,000 on a system that consists of a Yamaha RX-V3800 A/V receiver and 2 Definitive Technology BP-7002 speakers with built in powered subwoofers.  It sounds amazing for music, but since I dont have any rear speakers yet, movies have yet to draw me completely into the action.

I tried not to tell you what exactly to get.  I gave you information on whats out there and what you can expect to spend for different things.  Becoming and audiophile is a learning expierience.  You need to make up your own mind based on what research you have done on particular componants.  I would recommend going to a higher end audio store.  Nothing less expensive than say a Tweeter Etc.  The specialty shops in your area would be a better bet.  Look online at the Definitive Technology, Klipsch, Marantz, McIntosh websites and use the "Find a dealer in my area" to find some of these shops since they are usually the only ones that are authorized to carry these company's products.  The better your research the better the results of your purchase.

I hope this helps you on your quest.

    Jonathan
