I am looking for a great spinning rod and reel. Does anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking of a Shimano 2500 Symetre reel and a loomis 7' medium heavy pole.

  1. Ultra light - Garcia Mitchell 308 or 408  (ebay) and an ultra light ugly stick.

general fishing - Garcia Mitchell 300 or 400 and an ugly stick 6 foot or 6 ' 6" rod.

    Outfitted with FIreline

Garcia Mitchell reels aren't made anymore (now they are Mitchell) but you can pick one up on Ebay for a few $$'s  the 3** are good reels and the 4** are high speed retrieve reels.

Classics never die...I've got a couple that I'have had for more than 15 years and I bought them at a yard sale...

  2. YIKES!!!   This is so vague!

in general, not species specific, for me, it's .....

    RODS

GLoomis GL3/IMX (not the GLX - too many times have I seen those shatter from being so thin walled...it's not worth the $50 I have to pay to get it back from Loomis warranty service), Rainshadow RX7/RX8, Rogue rods, St Croix SCIII / IV, Lamiglas Certified Pro, and honorable mention to Fenwick HMG/HMX/AV

    REELS

Shimano Saros, Symetre, Stella, TwinPower, Stradic FH-not the new one...

Daiwa Z-CU, Steez, Capricorn A (not that orange XTC c**p from d**k's Sporting Goods), Advantage, Spinmatic

Quantum EPTi - still think it's too heavy even though I like it....

  3. It really depends on what you wanna spend on a reel. Shimano is a good brand.Abu Garcia is also good. I use Pinnacle,Shakespeare and Eclipse. Everyone has their own preference on what is "better". Get some ideas from others and go from there to find out what you like better. Good luck

  4. I don't think anyone can say what's the "best", that's a matter of opinion. I don't put my Shimano reels in my "best of the best" category, but rather in my "one of my better reels" category. My best spinning reel by far, is my Pfleuger President. Surprisingly out of all my spinning rods, my 6'6" med-hev Bass Pro Shops Bionic Blade is my second favorite. My new favorite rod is my 6'6" med-hev American Rodsmiths H3 Titanium. The best rod my hands have ever touched! Unbelievable quality for the price. I had a Loomis rod given to me, and it's very nice, but I have about 2-3 others I'd fish with before it.

  5. Really goin' to depend on what your fishin' for but, if G.Loomis be your rod of choice (in my book, they be bout' the finest), think I'd throw in a few more buck$ and go with the Shimano Saros 2500. Only my opinion and am sure you'll get others comin' your way shortly. "Tight lines and Fish On" ;)... < ' ( (( > <
