  16. First: The American Heritage definition of SPORT:

1.a.  Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.

    1. b. A particular form of this activity.

    2. An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively.

    3. An active pastime; recreation.

For a truthful project answer, I would have to choose for me, what has to be a non-commercialized sport, meaning removing all the games that the players receive loads of money for, because if we read the definition, Sport is for competition but not for Earnings so much, I feel to say, and it is only my opinion...

Some will do it for the money seeing they are good at it, while seeing they may not like it at all. I think Sport involves loving it, too. Especially that, really. I think you gotta love the sport and not see it as an earning potential only or above all else, see.

So that answer is for a sport that others play, with me watching them, and plain old High School football is the best.

Yet, I do not like sports that injure "dramatically". We call it fun and competitive, but it ought not to be dangerous to life or cause difficulties "after" the sport to the degree it makes us disabled. I mean broken bones are expected sometimes, but that would leave out boxing and the sports that cause such major problems as living life with brain damage after playing them. Then the sport reduces living. We play sports to add to our living. (Again, just my way of looking at things.)

I notice the words "risky" or "life threatening" are NOT in the definitions of what makes sports... well, sports.

I really see now that I am older, I wish people not to be as I am now. Mine was a back injury from lifting too much on the job, so I guess the weight lifting sport is outin my choices, too.  * giggles * I just do not like to see people hurt, is all. Not if it will not mend.

For myself TO play a sport, I have physical disabilities and am older now, at age 47, so those that require the physical are usually out. Younger, mine was volleyball. (Saw a girl wearing hooped pierced ear- rings getting her ear lobe torn in half, but she is still able to live fine, she just looks different. And it made a new rule in our high school gym - no earrings while playing.) o u c h ~

But now, finally, what you are asking for, for your Yahoo answer, well it is appropriate that I like the Yahoo Games and it is a sport for me, it is using my mind, more than physical, it is competitive and fits the answer # 3 above, for SPORT: active pastime and recreation !!! (and competitive, too, do not forget.)

It is playing Literati.  And the sport part of it is not only the competition but finding FUN players who are not just in it for the points, who are not using the annagrammers that literally take the sport right out of it.

I take this opportunity to invite folks who love competitive word play to find me in Literati, usually in the Poetry Lounge or I am in whatever Intermediate ones are not full.

Match words of wits with me, allow me to play my Sport ! ~
