for clothing: asics, mizuno, nike are all really good. i play select and we use asics.  

for equipment: takihara is normally really reliable.

The fairly universal norm is Tachikara.  Spalding and Wilson aren't half bad, but expect to pay a lot for them.  Mikasa and Molten are also good.

The AVP balls are hecka soft and last foreverrrrrr!

Tachikara volleyballs have been #1 for a while.  Molten is the official volleyball of USAV.  As long as you buy real leather and spend $30 dollars or more, most brands are fine.

Asics is very popular for shoes, kneepads and uniforms.

I think mikasa. they have great pro balls and awesome beginner balls.

For volleyballs it has to be Takahira (Pardon the spelling) They make the most reliable volleyballs, although some state activities associations go with another brand.

Almost all high schools and community colleges use the Takahira brand because they are less expensive.

Personally i think "Mizuno" is but thats just me (their shoes are really comfortable and so are their spandex!)
