  1. I'd highly recommend the Cinque Terre - 5 beautiful seaside towns about 3 km apart each connected by mountain trails and/or rail.  You can easily hike/walk between all 5 towns in about 8-10 hours or so, with some time in each town to walk around, and then take the train back.

  2. With the name "Riviera" italians mean the coast from French boarder to La Spezia city, in the middle being Genova, the main city of the reagion called Liguria. So I guess you mean the same. Now, choosing a spot for one day/night is very hard. If you are looking for a romantic time, than you can either choose Portofino (probably the most famous spot) or San Remo, or even Monterosso in the "5 terre". Frankly speaking, it is very very hard for one day only.... If you are looking for history, than go to Genova, You probably do not know that Genova and Liguria were in the past a Republic, very powerful in the Tirrenic sea. A part Genova, a lot of Roman ruins are there and small villages of the middel age (about 1000 years ago), still in the original good shape

  3. SAN REMO

  4. Lake Como. it is fantastic and can easily be reached by train. it is on the swiss/italian boarder

  5. NOT RIMINI. NOT RICCIONE.
