  2. It needs to be clear and dark.  It helps to have a local wide horizon.  You need to bring your 1x7 binoculars (your eyes).  It helps to bring things for comfort - a blanket, reclining chair, warm things to wear, interesting company, maybe some wine and cheese and crackers.
