I'll be going to NYC next month and want to go to a really great steakhouse; not Morton's or StripHouse since that I have where I live, but a place that would feel very "New York" and if it has a view, even better.

  1. There are a lot of great Steakhouses in NYC and you will get a lot of different opinions. You are going to get a great piece of steak at most places.

Personally, from your critirea, I would recommend Keen's Steakhouse, which has lots of atmosphere and Great Service -- it's been around since 1885.

Sparks is good, but reservations are meaningless there. A lot of people will say Peter Luger -- but I found it overrated and the atmosphere is like eating in someone's Kitchen.

Three others with real New York Atmosphere are the Old Homestead (which is in the "meatpacking district"), The Palm and Smith and Wollensky.

The websites might help your decision.

PS I did read that you said NOT Striphouse! And that gets a thumbs up? LOL

  2. Midtown: Sparks Steakhouse, 210 E 46th St

If you want a truly incredible meat eating experience:

    Churrascaria Plataforma, 316 W 49th St

Downtown: Dylan Prime, 62 Laight St (Wow)

  3. There are three fantastic stakehouses in NYC, Peter Laugers, Del Frisco, and Smith & Luenski's (sp?).  All of them are very New York, and you should go to which ever is closest to where you are.

  4. Gallager's or RuthChris.

  5. For all the hype, I disliked Peter Luger's ... the steak was good however it just didn't do it for me.

  6. I have eaten at all the great steakhouses in Manhattan including Dylan Prime (very cool scene) and Peter Luger(actually located in Brooklyn) - they are both very good.  The steakhouse that I always return to and think is the best is DEL FRISCO'S located at 6th Ave and 49th Street in the first floor of MGraw Hill Building.  It's a very New York restaurant with excellent service and massive glass windows overlooking 6th Ave.  Be sure to order the lemon cake, even if you don't like lemon cake (like me) you will love it.

  7. Only one.   Go across the Williamsburg Bridge to Peter Luger's.  Bring cash.  No others measure up.

  8. Go to Peter Luger in Brooklyn (under the Williamsburg Bridge which connects Brooklyn to Manhattan - about four minutes outside of Manhattan.)  Peter Luger is a great restaurant and is a New York legend - they've been around more than a hundred years.  They have the best steaks and actually cost less than some of the Manhattan steakhouses.

  9. Striphouse - it's amazing - high price tag but really true melt in your mouth steaks!

    PS. Great wine list also...
