What is the best stick for a defensive defenseman?

I've been wanting a Nike Bauer One90 shaft with a blade i like, but recently, I've have been beginning to doubt my choice since it might not fit my playing style. I really hate wood sticks since they are too heavy, but can't use a composite stick, unless I like it, since it's too expensive. Anyone knows if it's a good stick for my style, and if not, what would be good for me? I'd also like it if the stick is under 150$. Thanks!

  1. they're hard to find, but Montreal (recently bought out by Warrior) made lightweight but very strong wood sticks that were either fibreglass and/or graphite reinforced. do a little research, order a couple and let me know how you like them. they just might change your mind.

another excellent wood stick (but not excessively heavy) for a D-man would be the Sherwood 9950 Iron Carbon .. i'd go with a Bourque model (Coffey pattern has far too much curve because when you play defence oftentimes you gotta play the puck on your backhand)

otherwise go with a 100 or 110 stiffness shaft (100 if you weigh under 200 lbs., 110 if you weigh more) so when this happens you only have to spend $20 - 50 as opposed to $100 - 250 when you break a 1-piece stick.

it's as if you have reinforced in two areas of the stick also you can try different blades until you find one you really like.

keep in mind that most 1-piece sticks under $150 aren't very good quality.

    good luck buddy!

    bonne chance mon ami!

  2. Defensive Defensemen you need a twig that you can lay some "lumber" to some in front of the net and one that you can make crisp breakout passes.

I would take a hard look at some wood sticks first and then slowly drift into the composite range. It's important to make those passes out and punish the player around the crease

  3. Try something like the Easton Octane- Stealth S5 now. A fiberglass stick instead of Carbon fiver- a lot more sturdy, not as light, but still lighter then a wood stick.

You can only get them as blade shaft combos as far as I know though, but they're cheap.

But use what you have right now. A shaft and blade can last a long time, because when one part breaks you replace it without replacing the other part. Any stick really fits any style, as long as the flex is right and the blade is to your liking. If the stick works for you and you like it, don't worry about playing style- there is no set stick or stick type for any style.

  4. I am a defensive defenseman. I only use wood sticks. I always have. I am also a girl. I do not find them heavy at all.  They last for me and have a better feel. I have tried composite sticks before. Just not the same feel for the ice. I use Christain, Easton or Sherwood sticks and have had no trouble at all with them. . I have never spent More than 40 bucks on a wood stick and they last I think I am more than getting my monies worth out of them
